Soap Free: Exposing the Hazards in your Soap!
Are You Poisoning Yourself to Get Clean?
We’re about to take a closer look at a potentially hazardous chemical compound that is found in virtually each common soaps on the market. (And in other surprising products as well!) As there are no governmental regulations in advertising for use of the word “natural”, even products that you’re using that you belive to be innocuous likely include this potentially noxious synthetic compound. We’re going to analyze why your soap is likely doing you more harm than good and might be potentially causing at least the following side-effects:
- Sinus Troubles
- Aggravated Asthma Symptoms
- Lack of Energy
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Migraine Headaches
- “Unexplained” Sore Throats & Coughing
- Dermatitis, Eczema, Rashes or Eczema
- Soap Dry Skin
- Irritations to mouth, eyes, skin, lungs
- Chest Tightness
- Shortness of Breath
Frankly this is the “short-list” and probably additional negative health conditions could potentially be connected to your soap or other household cleaning products. Basically it boils down to this, if you’re experiencing any of these, you must take a serious look at the products that are being used by you and everyone within your house-hold. (To learn about quality, innocuous products to replace them you can shop soap free skin-care by going to www.SoapFree.org.
I’m not a Micro-biologist . . . I don’t even Play One on TV!
I’m not a microbiologist or an expert on the chemicals found in soap. But after suffering a multitude of the conditions listed above, especially allergies, sinus problems as well as dry and irritated skin and mild eczema, I took decisive action and removed all of the products from my home that contained the synthetic compounds we’re going to explore below (as well as other products such as bleach!) and I personally experienced nearly an immediate improvement. But the reality is it simply takes time for these chemicals to get purged from your home as well as your body, so I’m confident that – based on my own individualized experience – you will continue to see a continual improvement in your total health over time.
Triclosan: A Potentially Toxic Compound Included in Common House-Hold Soaps.
This chemical is found in virtually all “anti-bacterial” soap products which include not only hand-soaps (both bars and liquid), but shampoo, dish-washing detergents, various household cleaners and even cosmetics and toothpaste!
The Anti-Bacterial “Revolution”: A 16 Billion Dollar a Year Industry!
Destroying bacteria sounds like a good thing, right? After all, aren’t germs and bacteria what cause illnesses? At least that is the reasoning that fuels the marketing behind the multitude of anti-bacterial products out on the market: “Protect your baby from all of these ‘toxic germs’ just lurking about on each toy they touch!” Of course everyone wants to protect their babies so sure enough they’re going to buy them. Frankly this is just very expert marketing that feeds a 16 billion dollar a year “anti-bacterial” soap industry. Since the first “Anti-Bacterial” product arrived on the scene in the mid 1990’s this has become the “battle-cry” of the cleaning product industry. Apparently, if you’re not leading with this in your advertising, you’re likely losing ground in your market. (Unless, of course, you’re one of the flourishing companies that are educating people on the dangers of soap and other cleaning products and are providing calibre alternatives.)
More Harm than Help!
But the fact is anti-bacterial products truly do more harm than help; here are the two main reasons why:
1) What Triclosan does is inhibit the reproduction of bacteria. However, this chemical has no way of making the distinction between good and bad bacteria. It wipes out everything in its path! But the reality is humans do have a cooperative relationship with many forms of “good” bacteria that we need to for our bodies to function properly.
2) The other – and possibly more concerning – issue with the predominance of anti-bacterial products on the market is the weakening of our immune systems. Under normal circumstances a baby is coming in contact with all sorts of bacteria and through normal progression will develop a natural immunity to them. This process actually strengthens the body’s immune system. However, if your baby’s environment is unusually sterile because you’ve sterilized everything they come into contact with using anti-bacterial products, then your child will not have the opportunity to develop immunities to typical bacteria that they normally would.
The Bottom Line:
So in essence, in our attempts to protect our babies, we are actually making them more susceptive to potential illnesses. It has also been posited by many health-care professionals that this might make kids more prone to allergies and asthma as well. In fact, this situation is raising alarm-bells throughout the scientific community as microbiologists fear that the continued weakening of the general population’s immune systems (particularly within economically developed countries) could potentially lead to the rise of a “super bug” – a virus that is absolutely “immune” to our efforts to kill it – that could wipe out massive populations! Envision our contemporary version of the bubonic plague – and with all of our impressive advances in medical science absolutely unable to stop it!
Just State “No!”
In 2004 a medical study showed that people who used anti-bacterial soaps experienced no decrease in colds and illnesses in comparison to those that didn’t use anti-bacterial soaps. So in reality there truly are no “upsides” to using these products, while on the other hand, there are a whole host of potential “down-sides” (such as the side-effects listed at the top of this article.)
There are now a growing number of top-notch non-toxic soaps, sensitive skin soaps, individualized care items, cosmetics and cleaning products on the market.
