Over Exposure To Sun Stopped By A Weed

Milk thistle plant is considered by most of us to be a weed People rarely see benefits in the weed patch but cancer fighters are present A group of physicians recently looked at the weed patch to do just that. It has been known for many years that extract of milk thistle is very effective in the treatment of nearly all kinds of liver problems. This research found that the effects of excessive sunlight exposure can be altered, which might prevent cancer of the skin.

Researchers were from the Department of Dermatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham . They researched ways other than sunscreens to protect us from sun over exposure They studied all of the accessible literature in respect to skin cancer prevention and silymarin, which is a concentrated milk thistle extract .

The research showed that silymarin protects us from skin cancer caused by over exposure to sun but it has the added benefit of protecting us against cancers caused by chemicals.

There research found just how effective silymarin stops skin cancer. They reviewed experiments where animals were exposed to various chemicals that cause skin cancer. These include the use of 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene, mezerein, benzoyal peroxide, and okadaic acid. All of these chemicals failed to produce cancer when they applied silymarin topically to the skin. The same thing happened with solar-induced cancers.

Silymarin is anti-inflammatory, immune boosting and an antioxidant nutrient. It has the same properties as other cancer-fighting compounds , like Pycnogenol and resveratrol.

You can find topical silymarin at www.skinactives.com. A five gram tube sells for $6.50. You can mix it with other creams you might be using.  But do you have to place it on topically to get the same results?

You might not have to place it on topically. Researchers from the University of Colorado Cancer Center have studied the anti-cancer effects of silymarin extracts for years. They found that the major active anti-cancer and detoxification chemical in silymarin is a nutrient called silibinin.

The researchers did many studies to find how efficiently  tissues absorb silibinin when fed to mice. When the mice ingested a dose of 50 mg/kg, they had amounts of silibinin in their skin within one hour. And the levels were significant — 1.4 micrograms of silibinin per gram of skin. That would be the same as a 3500mg dose for a 150 pound person.

These findings show you should have the same skin amounts if you ingested a dose of 3,500 mg of silibinin one hour before sun exposure. . And at best this dosage level would last about three hours. You can find silibin at the Life Extension Foundation (www.lef.org). A 3,500 mg dose will cost you about $4.

If cancer runs in your family you might want to think about using silymarin cream . As more cancer cure research is done more and more products will be marketed and the prices will come down.
