has she tried minocycline? i swear it worked in two weeks for me and several of my friends.
if she has tried it unsuccessfully, i would suggest doing a steam treatment. boil a pot of water and maintain the heat to allow a good amount of steam to continually rise from it. have her place her head above it for 2 minute inervals about 5 times everyday. i’m not saying drag it out all day, but do the five times right after another, with a 30 second break to wpe off the water on her face. it opens up the pores immensely and not only makes your face feel better, but it helps get blood circulation in the face and allows some of the natural phagocytes to eat away some of the bad stuff in her pores. tip: have her breathe out of her mouth because if she inhales through her nose it may be painful, depending on how much steam there is. this sounds like a really weird treatment, and, it is, but it works!

Try changing her diet and have her drink lots of water. Keep her hair away from her face and exercise. Make a paste out of honey and cinnamon powder and spread this all over her acne overnight and wash with lukewarm water in the morning. Do this a couple of days…3 to 5 days…depending on the severity of the acne. This should kill the bacteria way deep under the skin. Try it and write me the results.

  15. almost_infamous says:

It is probably worse right now becuase she is in the final stage of growing and caused by those hormones. Keep using the prescription treatments and tell her to treat her skin GENTLY or else she will risk getting scars. A healthy diet (no fatty foods like fries and chips and avoid sweets, sodas and chocolate) and drinking lots of spring water will help too. Diet does not cause acne but can aggravate it.

PS – You may not like this tip but perhaps save it for when your daughter is older. Some women find their acne disappears once they start taking birth control pills.

Wow, I find it surprising that nothing has worked.

And since you said dermatologists, I am assuming you mean she has been seen by more than one doctor. Since you did not mention how long your daughter was under the care of either doctor, I am going to assume that both of these doctors have thrown in the towel on your daughters skin? Were you referred to any other doctors? Like an allergist? Toxicologist? This doesn’t sound right to me.

I guess that I would have to question the state of your daughters overall health. Skin conditions that don’t heal given adequate care are an indication of something going on here. Bad teeth? Diabetes? Severe allergies? Antibiotic resistant infection?

Many teenagers also have a compliance problems Are you sure the doctors treatment plans were followed?

I would dig a bit deeper into this situation. Even hard core cystic acne can be controlled.

  17. SassySours says:

This could be a very weird suggestion and it may offend you, but is she on birth control? Even if she’s not sexually active, she can still get a prescription for it as a way to control her acne. I have recently begun using birth control pills and WOW what an improvement in my skin! (I’m 25 and have had acne since i was about 13.) I used to be on the Depo Provera shot and it didn’t help my skin, but the pills have made a huge difference. If she’s already on BC and it doesn’t help, then I’m not sure what to tell you. I’ve never tried ProActiv but everyone has suggested it. I say go for it. (And I’ve heard foods have no impact on skin….water does though. Drinking lots of water keeps the skin hydrated, therefore there’s less dead skin to slough off and clog the pores.)

  18. Butterfly37 says:

    Try ProActiv.

  19. hydrasire says:

Your daughters condition is very unfortunate and is probably a genetic predisposition.

There are several factors that precipitate acne that include the bodies hormonal activity, hygiene, diet, and exercise. That latter three factors are something that can be controlled without medical attention.

The pores in your skin perform a couple tasks. They assist the body in controlling temperature and cooling the body requires persperation. They may also serve as a vehicle for some forms of waste elimination.

In order for the pores to work properly, water is a necessity. If nothing else, make sure that your daughter is drinking a sufficient amount of water. It acts as a solvent in the body. I think water is the most overlooked medicine. Water alone may not cure the acne problem, but is instrumental in the process. This means drinking plenty of water, not diet sodas, fruit juices and such.

Diet is important. Since acne seems to have its better days and its worse days, it may help to keep a log of foods that are consumed since certain foods (more than just sugar, starch and fatty foods) may play a role in acne. Some preservatives and food colorings may also have a negative effect.

Hypo-allegenic soaps may help, but it is probably even more important to practice very scrupulous hygiene habits for the next couple of years. Acne is generally from plugged up pores and the amount of bacteria that infects the pores will be a factor. Remember that hot water can increase bacterial growth. It may actually be wise to wash the face with cold water (ambient).

Execise helps the pores to work more effectively. It also helps the body, along with water, to eliminate waste (toxins) more effectively. This would be important in the case of acne.

There are a lot of products touted to alleviate acne conditions. It could be costly, but it could prove beneficial to try out some of these products. The best bet for looking for holostic or herbal remedies would be checking it out on the internet. Again, the only way to know for sure is to try them.

I would also suggest looking for a dermatologist that treats the individual, not just the skin disorder. I would think that a truly good dermatologist would take up the challenge of curing or reducing the effects of your daughters acne problem. Not only would he/she be helping your daughter, but gaining valuable information for treatment of the condition.

Whatever you do, don’t give up. I don’t like the idea that a severe acne condition can alter a child’s or young adult’s outlook on life. When I was younger, one of the observations I made with friends who suffered various degrees of acne conditions was the fact that stress and anxiety plays a role in major outbreaks and maybe the acne itself. It is sort of a catch-22 situation. You tend to stress out with acne, and the very stress it causes tends to make it worse.

Generally, this type of acne will slowly go away. If this is not the dermatologists should have determined any other underlying conditions that may be causing this skin disorder. So it would also be a good thing to research a little on how to minimize any scarring that could occur from acne conditions.

I just opened another browser to check on google for “acne rememdies” and here is one of the first links (see resource list) that came up. It pretty much concurs with what I have described and also gives some very interesting remedial advice. Check it out and other sites like thins one.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:
