Finding the Right Figure Competition Suit

Getting ready for a figure show is a journey in itself.  Not only should you weight train, go through cardio, apply posing, tan, supplement, get shoes, etc., but you also must buy your figure contest suit. Your figure show suit is a critical element to your figure success and it’s not always an simple job.  It is best to choose a figure contest suit that goes well with your skin tone, hair color, and the shape of your body.

The cut of your figure contest suit is also a vital decision. There are a few distinctive fashion posing suits you can pick from, as some are more revealing than others.

The Brazil style with a round top fits high on your hips.  It has less than 3/4″ wide sides and it emphasizes the sides of glutes.  This is a modest suit. 

The Brazil style with a v-top fits high on your hips, has a v-shape in the front and the back with trim sides. This is just a tiny bit more revealing.

The Rio style with a curved top fits high on your hips.  It’s the more revealing than the Brazil cut suits.  It has a round top on the front and the rear.

The Rio style with a v-top fits high on your hips.  It has a v-shaped top on the front and back with narrow sides.  This is the most revealing suit and looks groovy if you are on target. 

If you feel you are not lean enough try the Brazil style with a curved top or the Rio cut with a curved top.  These are also great suits to choose if you are not comfortable with wearing a posing suit in front of an audience.

Commonly the v-cut figure suits are favored, but don’t kill preference for comfort your first figure show or two.  Your figure competition suit should sit low at your lower back and high on your sides to show your form better.

Accessories on your figure competition suit are a fantastic step-up.  Rhinestones, jewels, and sequences pop out on darker colored suits.  A less costly route for including flare to your swim suit is to add glittery velvet or hologram spandex material.

It’s a good theory to get input from a seasoned figure competitor, your figure trainer, or a figure judge for feedback on your suit selection.

Locating the correct figure competition suit for you will help make the winning difference in highlighting and bringing out your figure.  Take your time and get some input on what cut and color of suit would look best on your build.
