Can many of our bodies actually deal with acne naturally? (moisturizer/wash might actually be causing acne)?

Question: Can many of our bodies actually deal with acne naturally? (moisturizer/wash might actually be causing acne)?
Hey, (PLEASE do not advocate “acne” products)

I’m a guy (so i don’t wear makeup or anything)

before I was 18 I’d rarely get acne, and I don’t remember having to wash my face and worry about applying the right moisturizer, or using the right cleanser, or worry about clogged pores.

Then I started to get maybe a few pimples, so I started to worry about these things… but they were probably from stress… but I started to get concerned about it, and worry about cleansers and crap.

Basically what I’m trying to state is – is it doable that all along the cleansers and moisturizers have been causing the acne? Have these products absolutely messed up my face’s natural way of keeping itself clean?

I know numerous people with clear/non oily faces who state they just wash it maybe a couple times a week, or splash some water on it in the morning and night…

If my body doesn’t have acne, but my face does – does it mean my face should naturally not have acne too if I left it alone, maybe splashed some water on it couple times a day, only use scrub when I shower, etc.

Sometimes I think a lot of us only have acne because we worry about it, and get caught in a loop of trying out different products, when we actually have a natural body solution to it.

Now SOME people have a lot of acne, but that’s more of a skin condition some people face, and they must seek out special products. But for us who never had acne before we worried about it, or don’t have acne on other parts of our body BESIDES the place we used “cleanser” and “moisturizure” on, maybe our body can deal with it superior naturally.

Many who’m lived in the woods and haven’t sanitized for weeks state their body has NEVER felt better.

If I where to attempt this (obviously I’d make sure i didn’t stink too), how long might it take for my body to return to it’s natural oil production, and natural way of dealing with things?

And then I can TRULY see if I just naturally have acne.

The reasons for your acne are –

    oily face
change in diet (causing oily face)
    change of stress level
    moisturizer (can clog pores)
acne washes (dry skin out causing over production of oil)
make-up/face paint (anything that you might inadvertantly put on your face)(clogs pores – all make-up clogs pores from every single maker, the lies they spew about doesn’t clog pores is a load of bull) even though you are a guy this applies if you are into trick or treating, sports w/face paint and anything else of this nature. (You would be surprised how many men wear make-up).

The best way to clean your face is to use clear water, wash face in the morning and at night, no soap or cleansers.

When I was a teenager I had pimples and all I did was wash with water. My best friend had severe acne, she used everything over and across the counter and nothing worked. She started washing with clear water and they cleared up, but not before all of the medications and other stuff, caused her skin to become scarred. When she was in her 30’s she has a laser treatment to remove the top layer of skin, to lessen the look of the scars. They were that bad!

For you though – STOP worrying – that is part of your problem, and then start washing with only clear water morning and night, and leave the rest to your body. If you feel your face is a little dry, find an oil free moisturizer and use it sparingly.

Give yourself two weeks to see results because they don’t happen over night.

I don’t think this is true because I’ve never had acne but I always wash my face every night, I’ve tried many different cleansers and such and sure I get a pimple now and then from eating sugary foods or an occasional oily face but I still have never had acne. I think your body/face has acne for other reasons, not because you keep it clean and I hardly think that if you stop cleaning it it’s going to help you’re acne.

I think you can absolutely cause your own acne problems. A lot of people start getting adult acne who never had pubescent acne, but they don’t know how to deal with adult acne, so they use products for teens. Those products are too harsh for your skin now because adult skin begins to slow down oil production.

When most people go through puberty, their hormones tell their oil glands to produce too much oil. That’s why all of the acne products are so strong: they’re meant to cut through all of that grease.

When you get older, your skin SHOULD be making less oil naturally, but if you’ve been drying your face out with products meant for teens than your face STILL makes tons of oil, because now it thinks it’s dehydrated! The problem is no longer triggered by hormones (something you can’t control), and is now being actively caused by you.

You could just leave your skin alone and see what happens, but if you want your skin to heal faster, you could try this:

    1. Use an extremely gentle cleanser like Cetaphil or just a plain “facial soap” bar (not regular soap), and only use that at night. Rub gently in circles with a warm washcloth, but never scrub. This is only to get off dirt / sweat / pollution from all day long.

    2. Don’t moisturize at night unless you have peeling / flaking, but if you need to, try jojoba oil. I’ve had mixed results with it, but it seems to work most of the time for me. (*read below for why this might work)

Apply jojoba oil right after you’ve washed your face, but before it’s completely dry (the oil holds in the water on your skin). Depending on your local climate, you could need anywhere from 5-15 minutes for a dime-sized drop of jojoba oil to soak in completely. Don’t lie down on your pillow until it’s mostly soaked in.

You could also use a mix of vegetable glycerin and water (1/4 glycerin solution), and spray that on your face. I tried this for a while with good results, but it was kind of sticky.

    3. In the morning, only splash your face with luke warm or cool water (never hot or cold), and rub the crusties out of your eyes / spit out of the corners of your lips.

    4. If you need a moisturizer for the day, jojoba might be too greasy for you, plus you’ll need something with SPF. They’ll all say non-comedogenic, but you’ll just have to see if they make you break out or not on your own. Cetaphil makes an SPF moisturizer, but sometimes it breaks me out, so your mileage may vary.

*Jojoba oil: how would adding oil to your face help? Jojoba oil can dissolve the hardened oil in your pores, without also becoming hard. Your own natural oils become hardened when they sit around too long in your pores. They get stuck in your pores because of the dry, dead skin on top.

Moisturizing your skin more will contribute to less dry skin (less block on top), plus, your own skin will stop producing so much of it’s own oil, because it can’t tell the difference between it’s own oil and jojoba oil, and thinks it’s already making enough. (Basically you overload your skin with moisture so your skin stops thinking it’s dehydrated.)

Yes, this might make you break out a little bit at first, but not too much. Eventually your skin should normalize within 3-6 weeks, at which point you can probably stop the jojoba oil, if you choose.

You’ll still want to wash your face once a day with a very plain, non-medicated facial soap and splash with water in the morning.
