At home chemical peel kit is one of today’s most favourite home treatments for smoother and clearer skin complexion. Chemical peel works by getting rid of the superficial layer of dead skin cells fast, promoting the rate of new skin cells regeneration. Generally, the acid strength for at home chemical peel is milder than those used in the dermatologist’s office or skin clinics.
Still, It is effective in reducing fine facial lines, wrinkles, acne, acne scarring and evens out skin tone. With the feasibility of administering at home chemical peel, there is no need to receive treatments performed by professionals at a clinic or spa. Not only the at home kit is getting favourite for its convenience and affordability, but also for its effectiveness as well.
There are many different types of at home kits and not all are suitable for home use. The group of acids typically used for chemical peels are called alpha hydroxyl acids or AHAs. These are usually naturally occurring which is derived from plants and fruit.
Even though AHAs only offer superficial peels, they are strong enough to disappear off dark marks, acne scars or other hyperpigmentation problems and is suggested for home use.
Glycolic Acid is derived from sugar cane and is one of the most favourite acids used for at home chemical peel. It comes with concentrations of 10-30% and is commonly used to treat uneven skin tone and fine lines
Lactic Acid is another type of AHA and is obtained from milk. Lactic acid peels penetrates just the epidermis layer and is commonly used to even out skin tone, disappear mild scars and reduce fine wrinkles.
Salicylic acid, a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) is derived from the bark of willow trees and is also used for superficial peels. It is used for deep pore cleansing for reducing the occurencce of acne, blackheads and whiteheads.
TCA or trichloroethanoic acid penetrates the skin a tiny deeper than AHAs and salicylic acid. This can be administered on darker skinned individuals as no bleaching of the skin takes place. It works on fine facial lines, wrinkles and evening out darker or lighter patches.
How To Perform At Home Chemical Peel
Before applying the acid, your skin must be thoroughly cleaned from oil or dirt. After application, the acid should be left on your skin for around 15 minutes before you wash off the acids. During this time the skin should be carefully monitored to ensure that no irritation is occurring.
After the procedure, you might experience skin redness which should clear off in about a day. For the next few days, you will noticed flaking of the top layer of dead skin cells before it sloughs off. For aftercare maintenance of your new skin, you should always use a sunscreen as your skin will become more sensitive to the sun which could results in skin irritation, redness or other chemical peel side effects.
Which at home chemical peel you select really depends on the severity of your skin problems, your skin type and skin colour. If you are unsure which is the right kit to choose, you should consult a dermatologist or certified skincare specialist.

Question: Which home chemical peel? – acne scars + discoloration?
I am 19, male, and have mild acne scarring (no indents or “craters”) and a tiny bit of discoloration. I was wondering which at home peel will benefit me best? I was thinking a 35% glycolic. Or something with hq or bha. There are too many kinds! Any suggestions?
